Why do post our prices on our website when none of our other small business IT competitors do?

I think if you took a sampling of IT service providers and asked them whether they would be willing to post their rates (managed services or hourly labor) on their website a good majority, if not all of them, would laugh in your face.  My question is, why?  What do we have to hide?  As a consumer I very rarely consider even investigating a product  further once I see that the pricing isn’t anywhere to be found.  As a business owner, I want my customers and potential customers to be comfortable that they are getting up front and honest information from the start.  These are my rates.  They aren’t going to differ because one potential customer wears a three piece suit to work and the other wears ripped jeans and a t-shirt. To be perfectly honest, it also helps me to disclose my rates ahead of time.  There is nothing worse than having a great sales appointment and when you get to the discussion about money, you find the customer can’t possibly afford what you charge.  What do you think?
